Background

Positioned as a vital hub within the community, the upcoming Westchester Square Library is poised to offer a significant economic and educational asset to a dynamic segment of the borough. Nestled adjacent to the historic Huntington Free Library, an institution dating back to before the establishment of NYPL, the new Westchester Square branch will continue the site’s tradition as a hub for the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge across generations. Conceived as a prism-like reading space elevated on a sturdy concrete foundation, the library's exteriors feature custom fritted glass panels, drawing inspiration from The Bronx's distinction as the "Greenest Borough of New York City," showcasing abstract interpretations of the borough's lush tree canopies.
